Day Two

Day two was much more uneventful than day one.  I had an MSG reaction and ended up sleeping it off for most of the afternoon.  However the day was not totally without it's charms.

The weather here is bitterly cold between 5 to 10 degree Fahrenheit.  It happens to be warmer in Michigan.  At least the sun has been out and that makes a difference.

I had eaten breakfast at a small restaurant below the apartment that I was staying at.  I had thought that I would be safe from MSG but I was wrong.  The food was delicious, a combination of bone broth with thin slices of beef and rice with a side of kimchi.

Breakfast. Bone broth with rice and slices of beef.

After breakfast, Hyun Ji and took a walk through the mountain to her home. It was a short lovely walk through the woods.

Morning walk up the mountain.
Looking behind me.
I was reminded of how I used to walk to work in the morning and I should do it again.

I arrived to Hyun Ji's house and the MSG started to kick in. My throat started to get tight, my stomach was nauseous and I couldn't keep my eyes open, all classic signs for me.  I ended up passing out for a good part of the afternoon.  It was disappointing but couldn't be helped.

Display at the Cooking Library

I woke up in time to head to the Cooking Library. This was definitely a trip worth taking.  You can click on this link to read more about it.  We were guided to a kitchen on the second floor. There we selected a recipe to make and proceeded to cook. Everything was already prepped. All we had to do was cook and assemble. I made the chicken calzone and Hyun Ji made a lasagna.

The library itself was amazing.  Thousands of titles and most of them in English.  It would've been fun to spend the afternoon browsing as there were so many I had never heard of.  My idea of heaven!

We drove home through and even though my apartment was eight miles away, it took 45 minutes to get back. City living and traffic...  I ended up falling asleep soon after arriving and that ended my somewhat slow day.  On to the next...

See you all tomorrow.
